A reclaimed water reuse system takes secondary treated effluent and upgrades it to a quality suitable for reuse — cooling tower make-up, toilet flushing, floor and vehicle washing, landscape irrigation, or even return to the production process.
The core is a combination of ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis with appropriate pre-treatment and disinfection. For high-salinity effluent, a two-stage RO or RO + evaporation arrangement moves the plant toward zero liquid discharge.
Reuse typically cuts fresh water purchase by 50 %–80 % and reduces the discharge fee at the same time, so the investment normally pays back within one to three years.
